Paste it, import it, share it
Paste or type text, or import TXT, PDF and DRM-free EPUB files from Files. You can also share text, PDFs and EPUB books to Lirawi from another app. A PDF needs selectable text to be read aloud.

Lirawi reads text aloud on your iPhone: text you paste, files you import, and printed pages you scan with the camera. Text recognition and speech happen on the device.
Lirawi is being prepared for App Store submission. It is not available to download yet.
What it reads

Photograph printed pages with the camera, or choose photos of pages in the iOS picker, up to 20 pages at a time. Lirawi recognises the text on your iPhone and lets you check it before saving.
One download, then offline
The natural voice is a separate download of about 129 MB that you start yourself. One download covers all 31 reading languages, and after that Lirawi reads without an internet connection.

Text recognition is narrower. Scanned pages and photos can be recognised in Arabic, French and English. Arabic recognition is not available on every device; where it is not, you can paste or type the text instead.
What stays on your iPhone

Text, files, page photos and audio are processed on your iPhone. AppXLab does not receive your document text, titles, page photos, audio or reading history.
No account, ads or tracking
No sign-in, no analytics and no advertising. Lirawi does not use the advertising identifier and does not track you across apps or websites.
Camera, only for scanning
Lirawi asks for camera access the first time you choose Scan pages. Everything else works without it. Page images are deleted when you save or cancel.
Photos you pick, nothing more
Choose photos uses the iOS picker, so Lirawi receives only the photos you select and needs no permission to read your library. It never changes or deletes the originals.
Not in your backups
Your library and saved audio are excluded from iCloud and computer backups, and deleting Lirawi deletes them. Keep your original files.
One network connection
The voice download comes directly from GitHub, which receives your IP address to deliver the file. No document, photo, text or identifier is part of that request. Details in the privacy policy.
About the voice
Fig. 05Lirawi’s natural voice is Supertonic 3 by Supertone Inc., used under the BigScience Open RAIL-M License. Downloading or using it requires accepting the use restrictions in Attachment A of that licence.
The voices in this app are synthetic: they are generated by a computer, not recorded by a person. Lirawi reads text aloud. It does not give medical advice.

Honest limits
Fig. 06- Your library is not backed up. It is excluded from iCloud and computer backups, so a lost or reset iPhone cannot restore it. Keep your original files and import them again.
- A scanned PDF has no text to read. If a PDF is only images of pages, photograph the pages with Scan pages instead.
- Protected files cannot be opened. Password-protected PDFs and DRM-protected EPUB books are not supported.
- Recognition covers three languages. Lirawi reads 31 languages aloud, but recognises text in scans and photos only in Arabic, French and English.
